East Van Special
A dramatic garden transformation greets visitors to this 1977 Vancouver Special. In the front garden, twenty four vine maples have been planted in groupings with an understory of woodland plants. As a tribute to post and beam architecture typical of West Coast Modernism, this house and garden celebrate the mid-century aesthetic with a bold colour scheme and a plant palette that evokes a west coast forest landscape. In the back garden, an outdoor room was created for entertaining using reclaimed wood and tinted acrylic panels that cast dramatic light patterns on the stone patio. This home and garden was featured on the 2011 Vancouver Special Tour hosted by the Vancouver Heritage Society.
